The system is divided in different areas known as assortment stations. Each of them has an assigned number of lighted displays and a determined quantity of SKUs related to such displays.
For example, in a 1000-SUKs Distribution Center where there are many operators working simultaneously; this will be dived by assortment stations of 200 SKUs each, resulting in 5 working stations.
In each station, a sub-classification is made in order to balance the entire system; therefore, each station will have low, medium and high turnover products. In this way, the operator avoids excessive workload by generating working balance.
- Standardized process
Pick to Light place a display next to the product so the assortment operation can be entirely standardized.
When an order with different containers arrives, it is scanned and the assortment stations are automatically lighted so the operator can take the indicated products and quantity. Then, these are place in the appropriate containers which continue their way through conveyors from one area to another.
If a product is missing, the operator can easily update the software. Eventually, the whole process is connected to the automatic closing system and it is possible to continue to shipping area.
- Quality control
The software has a quality control unit connected to a dynamic scale. The scale compares the order’s theoretical and real weight, if a significant difference arises, it is decline and the verification is performed. Therefore, the person who prepare the order, the date and all the information required for verifying its reliability, is accurately known.
