Today we will talk about a successful case in the implementation of automated tools in one of the largest beauty industries in the world: Mary Kay Inc. Enjoy this evolution!
What is Mary Kay Inc.?
Mary Kay Inc. is one of the leading companies in sales of makeup and skin care, Lesley Cosmetics is the authorized and exclusive distributor of Mary Kay Inc. in Finland, Norway and Sweden. With more than 600 items in stock in the warehouse, the company relies on a Kardex Remstar storage system for precision and short delivery times.
What problems did Mary Kay Inc. have?
Mary Kay Inc. was introduced by Lesley Cosmetics in the Nordic market in 1992. The company distributes makeup and skin care through its network of independent beauty consultants. In
2003, Lesley Cosmetics launched its Nordic web store, which made it easier to order products for both consultants and their customers.
The Lesley Cosmetics distribution center in Mölndal has more than 600 items in the warehouse. The orders received usually consist of an average of 17 lines and are placed by independent beauty consultants in order to fill their stocks and supply their customers.
In order to handle the large number of picking lines, the company needed to find an efficient solution that would reduce the delivery time and increase picking speed and accuracy. They also sought to improve their routines by creating a better flow in the warehouse, with a more ergonomic work space and rotation in the tasks of the staff.
What was the solution?
Kardex Remstar recommended a Megamat RS 350 combined with the Power Pick Global warehouse management software to offer a fast storage and recovery solution.
Thanks to the Megamat RS, the articles automatically take the shortest route to the access opening at all times. The LED rail position indicator increases the picking speed and reduces picking errors, while the possibility of selecting and simultaneously replenishing the stock makes the process very efficient.
Thanks to automation, 3,000 order lines can now be easily picked up in a one-day shift, which increases the picking speed up to 300%. In addition, 3 collection areas were eliminated and greater ergonomics were obtained for employees, and so on.
