# Signs that indicate you must have a technology-optimized Distribution Center

This time, we are going to analyze the main reasons why implementing a sortation system is justified. Learn about them and find out how sorters can improve your current productivity.

Usually, logistics managers are always stressed due to the delivery commitments with the final customers and because of that, they are unable to assess the problems of the working center which delays the study and improvement of processes.

These are some of the warning signs that indicate you have a chaotic distribution center: 

1. Too many operators working at the same time.
2. Messy processes.
3. Intertwined activities.
4. Errors in orders’ records.
5. Lack of productivity. Operators spend 60% of their working time on moving around from one place to another.
6. High intralogistics costs

Typically, once the problems at your distribution center are identified, technological solutions are implemented. After an exhaustive analysis, 80% of the companies realize that they have can improve many processes from sortation (where usually there are a lot of issues) to shipping (where orders are shipped to different destinations).

The most common technology used for handling boxes is Pick to Belt, along with a sortation system. 

This is a process in which the [WMS](http://www.gieicom.com/eng/software/wms-warehouse-management-system) or [WCS](http://www.gieicom.com/eng/software/warehouse-control-system-wcs) indicate to the operators the products and quantities they have to place on the conveyors or belts so these can be transported to the sorter, creating assortment chains in different levels and areas.
