2023 Trends for material flows

BLOG_3_DIC

In recent years we have been part of significant changes, restructuring of processes, and a wave of fast-changing trends.

No one lived easily adapting to confinement, but things do not end there. Today it is an enormous challenge to find the balance between various variables that complement each other:

  • Users with a high degree of demand. Quality and speed have never been more valued.
  • Migration to hybrid environments. The average consumer is learning to live in a virtual and face-to-face ecosystem.
  • Everything must contain processes that reduce the carbon footprint. If we add all these points, we have a lot to solve. In this article we will tell you about some of the operational and behavioral processes that are becoming a trend for LATAM, and where we need more focus and evaluation than ever to improve material flows.

Where our focus should be in 2023?

We want to start by answering that question in the most honest way we can find: moving forward according to the needs of the market.

Until 2 decades ago, some brands could afford to put a series of products on the market, and the market either bought that way or it would never know about the product at all; today everything is different, because the trend is set 100% by consumer demand, leaving brands the challenge of adapting or being easily replaced.

Here we share some of the trends that will help the processes and material flows.
We hope you find them very useful!

  • Nearshoring. We add this point because of the importance it currently has in Mexico. Although there are many trained people in the country, it´s not enough to support the demand that is coming with Nearshoring. If you are one of the companies that begins to prepare to meet the demand of the US, you will require technology, immediacy, quality, and quality controls. Consider the power of automation in all your processes, we assure you that by finding base integrations, the operation will pick up a good pace and you will begin to consolidate!

  • Robotized integrations, such as AGV´s. According to The Logistics World website, by the year 2030 the market for commercial robots for warehouses will grow by more than 23%, exceeding 51 million dollars in revenue.

And it is that robotic allies are coming to LATAM with more force, showing us that far from being a threat, they are integrations that will help us to be more competitive, because while they are in charge of serial processes, we can expand the market and focus on the more strategic decisions.

An example of this can be found in tools with artificial intelligence applications that allow you to "think" and decide your own trajectories, as is the case with the AGV. At G-I.Eicom we call them Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs).

  • Carbon footprint is prioritized. If a few years ago it still seemed far away for companies to place special value on reducing their carbon footprint, today it makes more sense than ever, and not only because it ensures processes, but because the impact on the environment is at its worst stage.

According to intralogistica.es, the automotive and logistics industry generates 23% of global CO2 emissions and, of this percentage, the intralogistics sector is responsible for 25% (while the transport sector generates the other 75 %).

Therefore, today more than ever this attention and occupation with the ecosystem will be valued through various approaches, for example, the integration of new technologies and operational optimization with a conscious approach. Some applications are found in: technological equipment with minimal energy consumption, more efficient motors, surge suppressor installations that help regulate energy, etc.

  • Logistics 4.0 Although logistics 4.0 interconnection applications are not literally something new, it is something that is just beginning to be implemented in Mexico. It will be a priority that you begin to analyze in greater depth the applications of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Robotics, among others.

But not only that, we will have to interconnect them, because in this way we will strengthen their power and they will be automations that will scale the business in an incredible way, starting by opening the window to total visibility, in real time and from anywhere in the world.
