Challenges
Despite the fact that Audi manufacturing plants are constantly evolving, the implementation of a comprehensive system of mobile robots was still an innovative process that broke the paradigm that this type of task can be carried out successfully, even when fully automated.
Given this, one of the main challenges was the adaptation of the staff to this change of role in which a series of automatically guided vehicles (AGVs) moved the products without any human intervention, having to trust that they would do it at the right time and in the correct proportion.
What was the mobile robot solution?
The design of the solution consisted of the implementation of 30 AGVs for the automatic and timely supply of parts. In this case, the function of mobile robots is to transport the products from the raw material warehouse to the different workstations, accurately and safely.
Thanks to their "on demand delivery" function and the intelligent control provided by the software that operates them, mobile robots are generating tasks according to the requirements of the assembly lines; so that when they need to recharge their battery, they automatically go to their charging station to continue with their assigned tasks after the charging time is up.
