Being the heart of the Distribution Center, the assortment of orders becomes the main pillar of operational optimization and the *raison d'être* of DC. For this, it is important to optimize this process by means of adequate slotting and optimal picking routes.   That is why today we share the following couple of measures so that you not only optimize your picking routes, but also reduce your boarding times:   ##### **1. Correct slotting strategy** In order for slotting to guarantee an ideal accommodation of SKUs within DC, it is very important to ensure that factors such as: the physical characteristics of the product, product rotation within DC, the method chosen to order the products (FIFO, LIFO) are being considered. , etc.), dimensions of the different storage units, dimensions of the different sales units and order assortment methods (parallel picking, picking and pass, among others).   In this way, it becomes easier to define the necessary proximity of each SKU in relation to the boarding area or receipt area so that processes are as fast as possible.   ##### **2. Route selection + automated picking** Having ensured that the slotting was generated correctly, we can give way to determining the optimal routes to carry out the assortment of orders, that is, those that guarantee the least amount of movements within DC to complete an order.   In order to minimize the time invested in each picking route, it is preferred that the picking is guided by an automatic system that allows the product to be traced in real time, so as to reduce the movements necessary for order preparation.   For this, the picking technologies offer great benefits, since they can increase the assortment in considerable percentages.   Now, it is important to keep in mind that depending on the areas that intervene to complete an order, the routes may vary according to the logistics unit that is handled (either box, pallet or item).
