How to evaluate the effectiveness of your assembly line?

blog 26-2

Constant technological innovation and the incessant change in market demands force us to continuously optimize processes to ensure that the performance of production plants is up to current demands.

For this, evaluating the effectiveness of assembly lines becomes an extremely important factor; but how to evaluate them correctly?

Takt time: The essential KPI for an assembly line

Undoubtedly, one of the most useful KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of assembly lines is the "takt time", since this metric reveals the maximum time available to produce each item, so that the demand rate is met.

Comparing your average production time with the takt time will help you ensure that the times of your assembly lines do not exceed the limit given by it, promoting the delivery of finished product in a timely manner.

It is also necessary to keep a record of the following indicators:

  • Net production time on each line
  • Downtimes of each line
  • Main causes of downtime

In this way, it is easier to identify bottlenecks or weak points that need to be corrected to avoid future production delays.

To ensure that the assembly lines work at a constant rate and do not exceed the takt time or, better still, produce at a shorter time, it is important that all the systems on the line are coordinated through automated systems or specialized software that allow correlation each thread within the operation.
