Food and beverage companies must have a perfect synchrony of processes, due to the great flow of products that they handle in a daily basis. Facing that level of commitment clearly depends on the chosen technology and the integral design implemented.

In this article we are going to talk about the best sortation systems for Food & Beverage industries:

Sortation in F&B industries

This sortation can be made by products, lots, SKU’s, color and packaging and even by size of the boxes or specific products’ characteristics.

Mechanical kickers. This is a low flow sorter and it can classify up to 40 boxes per minute. It operates by reading the bar code and sorting by means of pneumatic kickers or electromechanical systems

Shoe Sorter. This is one of the technologies with greater flow, since it can handle 200 to 250 boxes per minute, according to the application and type of product. They are frequently adapted in industries with thermo shrinkable products, for example bottled products, which are at risk when transported on roller surfaces.

Narrow Belt. This sorter allows applications between 80 and 120 boxes per minute, depending on the type of product. It can also transport the product to 30 or 90 degrees. It is ideal for homogeneous products, in other words, products with a rigid and flat bottom.

Regardless of the existing variables for choosing a sortation system (based on type of packaging or capacity), it is important to perform an assessment and prior analysis by an expert in the market, that is, by an expert in intralogistics automation.
